STILL WAITING ON THAT BARBIE DREAM HOUSE

When I was a little girl I wanted nothing more than to stay up late. All my older brothers and sisters got to do it, and I wanted to do it too.

I was sure that they had fun parties after I went to bed. I knew they were having a good time. I could hear them talking and laughing and having fun.

Where was I? Having fun watching t.v? Chatting with friends? Talking on the phone? Eating ice cream with chocolate syrup?

No. I was in bed. "Sleeping."

I can stay up as late as I want now....and all I want to do is go to bed.

When I was a little girl I wished I could eat as much chocolate as I wanted. I wished I could drink pop anytime that I wanted. Every day if I wanted. Or late at night.

I wished I could eat hamburgers, french fries and drink coke every day.

Now I wish that I had the metabolism that I had then so I could burn it off as easily!

When I was a little girl I wished that I could drive a car. I used to sit in my daddy's car and turn the wheel and pretend I was driving.

I would roll down the window and wave at fake people, and talk about where I was going and what I was seeing.

Discounting the episode when my family and I were visiting friends and my friend and I somehow managed to accidentally get the car rolling down a hill and the sheer terror of it all as one of us tried to steer and the other tried to push on the brake (hey, we were only five)...and discounting the fact that neither of our parents believed us after we ran up the hill and told them, until they saw the car halfway down the hill in the bushes.....and discounting the fact that I was told never to set foot in the car again....I still wished that I could drive.

Now I just want to stay home!

When I was a little girl I wanted a Barbie dream house. I wanted one so much. I was sure that my Barbie doll would be in Barbie Heaven if she just had that awesome house to call home. I was sure that if I had that dream home, I would never long for anything again.

Oh, and I also wanted an Easy Bake oven.

And a puppy.

And long, long hair.

And a little brother or sister.

Well, I never got the Barbie dream home. But I do have a home and family that are awesome! I do have an oven and it's pretty easy to bake in it.

I do have a puppy.....sort of. She is one year old but she only weighs about 4 pounds so she's little. I did the long hair thing and let me tell you, sitting on your hair isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Still waiting on the little brother or sister.

  1. It seems that often we always want what we can not have only to find when we get it we are not satisfied.
Hope you have a great day. Blessings, andrea

  3. I'm still waiting on that sister too. I wanted that barbie dream house too, my girls never played with Barbies..so even after having two girls I still didn't get the dream house. Grrr.

  4. I am so glad I wasn't the only one who wanted a Barbie Dream House! My next door neighbor had one and I played with it, but it wasn't the same, and then she moved and I was crushed. Looking back, I realize that it was more imaginative and fun to "make" our own rooms for Barbie and Ken's house ourselves, but the real Dream House sure was awesome, wasn't it?!

  5. I wasn't allowed to have Barbies as a kid. They were too "perfect" for my parents. So I'd go to my cousins or my neighbors and play with theirs! My cousin had the dream house and I did LOVE it!

  6. my cousin that lived across the street had the Barbie Dream House, the Barbie McDonald's, the Barbie Pool...we lived in BarbieVille. But for some reason, as parent I didn't let my girls do Barbies. I think it was the fact that I'm anal about little pieces, I didn't want barbie clothes and shoes and accessories littering my world. This is my world you know and I say what comes in and what goes out. Just like the travel Battleship Game that Jack got for his birthday. As soon as I saw the package I grimaced. I knew in a day that the pieces would be everywhere...and in three days they would be in my vacuum cleaner.

  8. I had a Barbie Dream House...it is in my attic right now! And that is probably where it is going to stay for a long time because I don't think my boys have any interest in playing with it. And if they did, it would probably end up being a fort for their army men:)!!

  11. These are so many of the very same things we all dreamed about doing and your right. I love to go to bed early, hate driving except to someplace fun, and always wanted something fun for Barbie! I had to make do with making my own out of cardboard boxes.

  12. Fun post. Sometimes it seems we're never satisfied, at least I know I'm like that sometimes. I'm trying to learn to be content!

  13. I wanted a Barbie dream house, too....for awhile. Then I turned into a total tomboy. Hard to believe now, but I used to climb trees, play in dirt, squish bugs...it grosses me out to think about it. Oh, and I did have a sister. She was a prissy little tattle-tale back then, so you weren't missing out on too much! LOL ;-)

I used to have really long hair, too. I was a senior in high school. I couldn't sit on my hair, but it did grow down to my hips before I had it cut.

  14. Awe, we can all dream, can't we? We may never get it, but we love to dream and our dreams often change to something bigger and better.

Just dream of what heaven will be like. That one will come true, but it'll be better than we dreamed it would be.

  17. Growing up with 4 sisters, we had our share of Barbies, let me tell ya! We also had the Barbie convertible and the Barbie R.V. and the Barbie swimming pool, but guess what. Our Barbies were homeless. No Barbie Dream House for us either. Maybe that's why they called it the DREAM house. Cause all we could do is dream about it.
