The Nerve Of It All!

Aaaarrggghhhhh! This is me screaming because I don't have a post for today. Can you hear me screaming? Can you see the eyes wide with fear? Can you see the cold sweat dripping from my brow? Can you feel my clammy hands?

Yeah.

Me.

Neither.

I'm not really worried. That's the awesome thing about blogging. You can pretty much blog about whatever you want to. Nothing to be nervous about.

Unlike a test. Oh my goodness. A test.

Y'all remember your test-taking days? I used to get so nervous right before one, even when I studied hard, it still made me nervous.

You know what else made me nervous? First dates. Oh my goodness. On a first date I was on pins and needles, wondering if I was wearing the right thing. After all, you don't want him to be wearing jeans and a t-shirt and there you are in a fancy dress, just looking as if you are waiting to walk on the red carpet at an awards ceremony.

I remember my first "real" date with my now-hubby (long story), he was taking me out to dinner and I couldn't decide whether I should wear a nice shirt and nice pants or a dress. Then there was the fear of spilling something on my outfit, and if you know me, you know that's a very real fear!

It really doesn't look "cool" to tuck a napkin into the neck of your shirt, but spilling food down your blouse doesn't look so cool either. Trust me.

Then there's the actual conversation part of it. I always used to adore going to movies because you didn't have to hardly talk to the guy. You just sat quietly, watched the movie, ate popcorn and drank a soda. You could pretty much ignore each other all evening if you wanted to.

Meeting my hubby's family for the first time made me nervous. I already knew his parents from church, but I was still nervous to be meeting them "officially" and I had never met the rest of his family before.

I was nervous all day about meeting them. So nervous, in fact, that I felt like I was going to throw up. I felt similar nerves on my wedding day when I thought of all those people staring at me as I walked down the aisle.

The thought of being alone with my brand new baby made me nervous. What if he cried and I couldn't console him? What if he wouldn't go to sleep? Would I know what he needed?

The first time I had to take both my kids to the store by myself made me nervous. Could I handle a newborn and a preschooler? What if the baby screamed and my preschooler threw a fit in the store?

Ah nerves, aren't they fun!!!!!

  4. Hey Nan. How do ya do it? Even when you don't have anything to post, you always manage to pull it off. I used to get SOOOO nervous when I had to get in front of the class to do a presentation. Thank goodness those days are over!!!

  6. I think we have all been in those scary and nervous places a time or two. The good think is that what we feared wasn't as bad when we got through it so see what worrying does? Gives us all more gray hairs in the future.

  7. I think the reason we are so scared of first is because of that whole thought, "You only get one chance to make a FIRST impression." It's true, huh...ugh...nerves...who needs them?

  10. LOL! For someone that didn't have a blog today, you sure did a great job! LOL! ;)

I get nervous when speaking or singing in public or meeting new people. You should see me clinging to hubby when we have to go to squadron functions. Ugh! I'm like a little kid and tell him "Don't leave me."

  12. Great post and the comments are really good too. Being in front of people talking makes me really nervous! Singing isn't too bad most of the time and playing the piano in front of people used to always make me nervous. Now I'm our church pianist so I've gotten rather used to it. I guess my most nervous times are doing things in front of people and I'm afraid I'll make a fool of myself. Yeah, like I haven't done that before. lol
