Why Slacks and Jeans Can't Get Along

O.k., I hate to be a complainer, but would somebody please explain to me why my slacks have to have an extra button on them? Hmmmm?

I mean, isn't the clasp at the waistband good enough? If they don't think it's good enough to hold the pants up, then why put it on there in the first place? If it is good enough, then why add the button?

I mean, come on designers, work with me here. Just how hard do I have to work to put on a pair of slacks?

I tried just closing the clasp and not buttoning the button, really I did. But suddenly I felt like maybe the button-police were going to come get me. Everywhere I went, I just knew they were out there, waiting to pounce.

I worried that people were talking about me behind my back in harsh whispers, "Did you know that she didn't button up her slacks this morning? No, she didn't. She only used the clasp to secure them. Shocking isn't it?"

See, that's why I like jeans. Jeans are dependable. Jeans are trustworthy. Jeans don't ask for much, they only want to make you happy. Jeans don't talk about you behind your back.

Slacks are snooty, and proud, and have an attitude problem. They also put on airs and act like they're to good for you. If you don't believe me, try wearing your best pair of slacks with your raggedy sneakers. Go on, try it. I dare you.

See? You can't do it. You feel compelled to put on a pair of heels with your slacks, don't you? The slacks look at you and say "Oh no, you did not just put on those sneakers. Uh uh, baby. You just march right back and get me some heels, missy."

Oh yeah, slacks are sassy....that's why they start with an "s." Denim is delightful....that's why it begins with a "d." I need a nap, that's why my name begins with an "N."

  6. So true & so funny! Now you've got me thinking...why do they call a pair of pants "slacks?" They don't cut you any...slack, get it? Okay, now it's time for ME to take a nap.

  9. I totally agree. What is the point of the extra button. I totally didn't button mine either this morning! I hope my clasps don't break or it might be it for the slacks!

  13. I'm a jeans kind of girl myself. I can dress em' up or throw on my sneakers and a t-shirt if I want. I, too, wish I knew how you come up with all these funnies:-)

  14. Thankfully I think my days of wearing slacks are over. I mean I think it's the same on both men and women's slacks. Perhaps its the very thing that separates pants from slacks is the extra button thing.

  16. So true. I was lucky to have not put on a pair of slacks for over a decade. Just jeans and scubs...oh, those were the days.
