*Cough* *Hack* *Wheeze* *Aaaachooo!*

I have been sick and haven't been blogging or commenting much lately. But today I want to talk about something that is very near and dear to all of our hearts.

Cough syrup.

Will someone please tell me why we can put a man on the moon but we can't make a cough syrup that tastes good?

I mean, come on. Seriously. Really? Ugh.

Does it really have to taste bad in order for us to believe it's working? I am willing to believe that it can taste good and still work.

Man, think of the market. You could have cough syrup in all sorts of yummy flavors. I am certainly old enough to keep the medicine out of the reach of children, so what're they waiting for?

There is no cure for the common cold, we know that. So let's take advantage of it. Let's make some snazzy cough syrup and everyone will want to buy it.

They could even make them in designer covers and then people with colds could carry them around with them and show them off.

I know why they do this. They don't want people buying it and using it unless they have a cold, right? So I, for one, am willing to have stringent policies in place in order to buy a great tasting cough medicine.

I am willing to go to the pharmacy and cough and sneeze and hack all over the person, just for the purpose of buying a yummy tasting cough syrup. Who's with me?

  1. I haven't bought cough syrup in years. We always use a mixture of honey and lemon and it usually works for us. Actually we try not to let it get to the coughing stage by kicking it as soon as we see it coming on. But that's not helping you right now is it? LOL!
Love you my friend and I do hope you get better!
    Hugs

  2. I have to say, for me, Robitussin is the most vile medicine. I hem and haw if I have to take it. I stand there and look at it, like it will magicially start to taste better if I wait for it. When I finally do gulp it down, I stamp my feet, hang my head over the sink (incase it comes back up), and I really do think I stop breathing for a few seconds.

If you are marketing yummy meds...I am for it. Can mine taste like red velvet cake?

  3. OTC cough syrups usually don't work for me. I was sick a coupla weeks ago, and came across some great home remedies. I used them, and they worked great! Here's what you do:

Grate some ginger root. Squeeze it in a strainer, extracting 1/2 teaspoon of ginger juice. Mix with one spoonful of honey. This tastes pretty good, and it has a little kick to it! Check it out on YouTube, because I can't remember how often it can be taken. I just took it before going to bed for the evening. After taking your medicine, rub some Vick's VapoRub on the soles of your feet. Cover your feet with warm socks. Go to bed! I did this and slept through the night!

    Hope you feel better soon...

  4. I seriously hate sleeping with socks on, but another home remedy that truly works (IF you can stand it) is putting Vicks all over the bottom of your feet and then socks before you go to bed. You'll sleep through the night. Don't ask! Good luck and if you find a good tasting one, count me in!!

  5. Sorry you are feeling yucky! I don't take the stuff unless absolutely necessary, but I have a 2 1/2 year old grandbaby who would wholeheartedly agree with you.
    Blessings, andrea

  6. I think the cough syrup's ability to work is directly related to how horrible it tastes. And I find it interesting that socks worn to bed will keep you from coughing. Will a bag worn over my head stop my feet from hurting?

  11. Awww, I was hoping you were feeling better by now. Sorry, Nan. I'm with you 100%. Maybe if you take a spoonful of sugar afterwards. That's what Mary Poppins would do.

  12. I hate cough syrup. I have to be dying to drink it. (Or, my husband has to force me to do it.) I always buy the Nyquil (or whatever brand) pill version.

Hope you feel better very soon.

    I pray you feel better!

  14. Whenever I get the itchy throat, watery eyes, sneezy fits, the ORANGE Triaminic always works best for me. But guess what? I can't find it anymore. Not even in generic! and it's the best!! I need it!! It even helps me sleep. I don't think it's suppose to, but it does.
or maybe it just makes me feel better enough to sleep.
Anyway...did you hear me say I can't find it anymore? Oh the humanity!!
