Are You Sure You Really Want to Know This?

I wish someone would explain to me how my house can go from clean to disaster in two seconds fast. Seriously, how does that happen?

It's not like I have little kids wandering around. In fact, when the kids were little my house was neater than it is now. It was almost always immaculate back then, even when I had a four year old and a newborn, and even when they were ages two and six.

The main reason why it was so clean when they were little? The kids and I did three toy pickups a day: before lunch, before dinner, and before bed.

Hubby and I and the kids (when they were old enough to participate) also did a whole house pickup at 7:00 p.m. in which we all ran around for 15 minutes, picking up and straightening up as needed. Each night when I went to bed everything was back in it's place and ready for the morning. Now that's what I'm talking about! Aaaaaahhhhhhh! Peace and orderliness.

That was then and this is now. No more pickups three times a day and no more whole house 7:00 p.m. pick up. Sigh. Hmmmm, wonder if I should start that again? Who's with me?

The sad thing is that pretty much most of the things that are left out are mine.......sigh......Are you sure you really want to know this?

I have laundry that still needs to be folded. Why won't laundry mind its own business?

I have magazines that my mom gave me to read that are sitting on the floor, awaiting my response. Yeah, like I need to sit and read a stack of magazines and ignore everything else.

I have some stuff I bought at Goodwill that I need to find a place for. Just trying to help out the local economy, people.

I have some candles that my hubby bought me for Christmas that are still waiting for their permanent home.

I have a pair of snow boots that I bought at Goodwill (love them!) and are waiting for me to put them away and toss the worn out ones. Because we always get months and months of snow here.....not!

I have a couple of library books that need to be put back in the library box. For some reason I can't resist getting a stack of library books, even if I can't possibly read them all. Hope springs eternal and so do library books.

I have some coupons that I clipped that are still waiting for a miracle (i.e., the miracle would be that I clip them and actually use them).

I have some papers that need to be sorted through and filed or tossed. Papers are sneaky, sneaky little critters and they will multiply.

I have some stuff that a friend borrowed from a neighbor and I need to return them to the neighbor....five boxes!

I have a few Christmas decorations that don't fit the space we've allowed for them, so now I have to find room for them somewhere else.

My crockpot is sitting out because I am to lazy to put it away. After all, suppose I decided to use it again in a day or two (*rolls eyes*).

I could go on and on, but frankly, I'm exhausted.......

Now you know, I am a sad, pitiful little mass of messy humanity lately. However, there is a bright side, and as soon as I figure out what it is I'll let you know.

  1. It's hard to be orderly when you run out of places to store things. Time to get rid of some stuff you really don't need or use anymore and doing that pickup runaround each day again would be a great idea! Good luck!

  2. The bright side is that there is always tomorrow to do it! LOL! That didn't help much did it?

  3. Invite company over. Nothing inspires a little housecleaning for me like knowing someone else is going to be here.

  4. Hey....are you living in my house and I didn't know?

When I was a better Flybaby, I was good about the evening pick-up too. Now, I am just frustrated by that time of night and all I can think about is....how many minutes until bedtime?

Part of my problem is that my house is just too small, and I don't have storage. So it sits out until I can think of some creative way to take care of the problem.

Hope you get your house picked up today....

  5. Do what I did....I hired someone to clean our house every two weeks. The woman needs the work, she's very trustworthy (I know her personally), she doesn't charge much, and she does a good job.

The biggest benefit of this has been that it forces us to pick up our clutter before it gets really bad. I tell hubby and the boys, "Marie doesn't know where our clutter belongs. Pick it up before she comes!"

We run around like crazy people the night before Marie cleans, putting away all of the junk that has accumulated since her last visit. It works like a charm and is worth every penny. :-)

  6. Sounds a little bit like me. IF I were to list my list of things to do it would never end. UGH...someday...it's not like my list is going anywhere soon.

  7. Guess what I'm looking at right now...

Mason's got little pieces of Styrofoam alllll over the living room. Crack. There goes another piece. It looks like a blizzard in here. I'm just amazed that your house wasn't a wreck with two little rug rats running around. For me to keep a clean house I'd have to do a 12 hr. shift. I clean up. He takes out. I clean up. He takes out. And that's just his little messes (little...that's an understatement). Then there's the regular everyday household chores I love to hate! But I guess the house isn't going to magically get clean. Duty calls.

  11. Oh, I feel your pain. I have little kids, though. They just make my mess insane. I'm naturally messy myself.

  14. No honey, the sad part is I could've written this my very self - seriously, I'm going to show this to my husband!!! Right down to the crock pot! It's exhausting looking at it here but when I read it from your point of view it's funny - let's laugh at, ummm WITH each other!! ♥

  15. Oh, you're not alone. However, I finally gave up on the magazines and got rid of them...isn't that progress? The shredder is full, the library bag is full of books to go back, and I finally dealt with all the cardboard from Christmas. Yet, it doesn't seem like I've made much of a dent...oh, well, there is always tomorrow!

  16. I can so relate, Nan. I have been trying to get things going back in their rightful place, but I've only done it halfway. Ugh!
