Some Motherly Advise

I'm sure you all know what Sunday is...

That's right!
Mother's Day!

This is definitely a holiday worthy of celebrating. And I'm not saying that because I'm a mommy myself. With 4 years of motherhood behind me, I still have plenty of learning to do before I can earn my Greatest Mommy Award. My mom, however, has had her little trophy for quiet some time. To be exact, she's had it for as long as I can remember. I know that I've got a great mentor to rely on if I need any advise. If my little guy is feeling under the weather, I know just who to call. It never fails. She always has the best old-fashion, homemade remedies, like mixing one part olive oil + one part honey + a little splash of lemon juice to sooth a nasty cough. Believe it or not it tasted really good and it worked like a charm! Sometimes the remedies are a little out there like when she told me to grease him down with Vapo Rub. Yeah, that's nothing new, but then she tells me to wrap him up in newspaper! ??????? Don't ask me... Since the first trick worked, I didn't have to resort to that one. I gotta say, though, I'm kinda curious.....

My point is this. A mom would not be a great mom if she didn't give advise to her children. It's part of the motherhood territory. One day, God willing, I'll be giving my children advise on how they can be the greatest parent ever. I just have to remember everything that my mom has taught me and then pass it on.

So tell me...
What great advise has your motherly mentor passed on to you?

Your's (truly),
Miti

  1. Hmmm, a great piece of advice from my Mom? How about "Don't sit like that. It's not ladylike." I heard that all the time!

  2. "Trust God! You are not smarter than He is!" Pretty good advice that I have remembered many times. :)

  3. So sweet! About that motherly advice...my daughter was laughing the other day when she just causally became a fan on FB of, "You wonder when every conversation you have with your mom, WILL NOT turn into a life lesson." I told her...when you learn all of life's lesson! I say...never give up and keep talking.

Have a beautiful Mothers Day Miti!!

  4. This was a sweet post. I don't know what I would do without my mom and all her help since I have become a mom. There are so many to list.

  5. Oh, wow...I'm like Mimi! There are so many things...my mother has given me great advice about everything.

I guess my mother's best lesson has been by example. She's amazing. :-)

  6. Wow, I don't know if I can pick one thing. I do know that she always insisted that I act like a lady! Manners were pretty important to her, although teaching us about God was more important!

  7. My mom's my best friend and one of the wisest, most well-intentioned people I know, so there's lots of GREAT advice she's given me. Some of my favorites are:
*LOVING OTHERS is the most important job we've been given on this Earth.
*Just because someone is DIFFERENT doesn't mean they aren't WONDERFUL!
*You can ALWAYS use your mother as an excuse to help you get out of an uncomfortable or dangerous situation. (She always said I could blame her and then tell her and she would ALWAYS say that it was her fault if it helped me in a difficult situation. "I can't. My mom said I have to be home in 20 minutes.")
*Remember when picking a mate, you are picking not only a LIFEmate, but a ROOMmate!!
*In any house, the people should be more important than the things. Never make anyone feel umloved because they messed up a THING.

And my FAVORITE Mama quote (which she says began with HER mother) - used anytime someone said "crap" or the other dirty word with a similar meaning - "I wouldn't hold in my HAND what YOU just had in your mouth!" HAHAHA!
