I AM MARRIED TO A TURTLE

I suppose you're wondering about the title. It's only fair that I explain it.

Sometimes I notice that my husband has pulled the covers up over his head when sleeping. How can he do that? Ugh. I just need to breathe, man. I need fresh air.

As a turtle pulls his head into a shell, my hubby just sort of pulls his head in under the shelter of the covers. Like it's his own private little cocoon. So maybe he's a butterfly. Or a moth. :0) Do you think he does it because I'm snoring? Am I snoring?

He is more than happy to pass this quirk down to the next generation. Yesterday morning I walked past my son's room and the only part I saw sticking out from under the covers was his knee. Like turtle like son.

This can be quite entertaining when hubby is pulling the blankets up to cover his head, and I am pulling them down to uncover mine.

Oh, and might I mention that I am a blanket-stealer?

I didn't know that until my husband pointed it out one morning soon after we married. Fortunately for me he was smiling. He was also pointing out who had all the covers. Me.

That means I win, right?

He (she) who has the most blankets wins.

I wonder if he's still smiling.....

  1. I guess my husband could qualify as a turtle as well. He pulls the covers up and then sleeps with a pillow over his head. I have no idea how he breathes! And I'm a pillow stealer. LOL

  2. I like pulling the covers over my head too. I know if I do that, it helps me keep the covers. Perhaps that's why he does it as well. My husband is the cover hog in our bed. Plus, it's warmer that way and cozier too. I love that sometimes my kitty crawls under with me and with the covers over my head, I can see it as I pet it.

  3. Maybe you need to do what we do. We sleep under separate covers, so there is no problem. We can each do what we want, and it doesn't bother the other at all.

  4. Oooh, we have the cover discussions regularly. I couldn't BEAR to have the covers over my head, but I like them pulled up to my ears - as far up as they can be without being on my head. The hubs, however, likes his arms out and he WHACKS his arms down on top of the covers to get them as tightly to his body as possible, and holds them there. Makes getting them up to my ears quite difficult. Haha!

Also, I'm a cover stealer (and he points this out to me every morning as if I'm doing it intentionally and conciously). But HE is a kicker of covers. He's 6'1, so any flinging of his feet flings the covers off the bottom of the bed. I tell him constantly that if he'd stop kicking the covers off the bottom, I wouldn't yank them to my side in an effort to get them back up to my ears, thus ending my cover stealing. I thought it was a pretty good deflection of blame. He wasn't buying it. :) haha!

  5. OH that's funny. My husband does the same thing. I don't know how they breath under there! I feel like I'm suffocating.

  7. Aw man, my son pulls the overs over his head (or sometimes his pillow) but I thought he'd outgrow it one day.

I'm with you, I need the fresh air.

  8. I am a cover hog too but not a turtle. I have to be able to breathe cool fresh air not hot stale air! LOL

  10. Nan,

I think this bedding companies just need to make those top comforters a bit longer so it keeps us from hogging all the covers.

  11. My daughter sleeps under the covers - what is UP with that?? She said she doesn't want to hear everything else going on in the house. It suffocates me thinking about it. You steal all the covers you want, honey ~ ♥

  13. LOL! I pull covers over my head but poke my nose and mouth out as I'm sleeping on my stomach to have fresh air. LOL! Since dh is the blanket stealer, he got me my own electric blanket. :D

  14. I have to have my face out of the covers at least. I need fresh air in and out of my nostrils. :)

  15. Oh, I see! You're talking blankets. When I read the title I thought you were saying that your hubby is a slow poke. If that were the case then I'd have lots to talk about. I'm a turtle like that.
