You Did WHAT?

I know, I said I would never do it...
I warned others not to do it...

I am allergic...
I am a neat freak...
I am a germaphobic...

But...

She needed a home...
&
I am a sucker for blue eyes...

I did it...
I gave into my kids wishes...
I got a doggie...not a puppy...a doggie.

She got a home...
She got a day at the spa...
She got a new bed...
She got a new collar & leash...with sequins...
She got a family that loves her.

Our Angel...

Guilty As Charged,
Mimi

Any Doggie tips or special things you do for your doggies would be so appreciated.
We want her to be happy & love her new home!

  1. Oh, I think it's just precious that you got her to give her a home filled with love. It doesn't get much better than that! She is beautiful and she has the perfect name. Congratulations, Mimi

A tip that I have heard of, but don't do because I didn't know about it soon enough is: To have a bell by the door that she can learn to ring when she needs to go outside.

  4. Oh I am so excited for you!!!!!!!!!
Especially considering you have 1 and I have 4, LOL!! This is one of the greatest things you can do for your kids, unconditional love at it's best!!

  5. What a beautiful dog! I can see why you fell in love with those eyes. I'm trying to think of a tip for you because you know I have a dog well it's a pug and that counts as a dog, lol.

The best thing we did was to gate off the sunroom and put in a doggy door to the deck and fenced in yard. I can leave him for a few hours and he can let himself in or out to do his business. This also keeps him in one area of the house while I'm gone so he can't get into trouble or the trash or my shoes, lol.

    Blessings and Congrats!

  6. Oh' how sweet! she is beautiful! love the blue eyes. I am sure the kids are smitten with her. By the looks of Stunt Man, I can tell she will be loved.

  7. cute puppy! I suggest creating boundries in the house and a good size area in the backyard, either fenced in or with a good size dog run. they need space to "go" and space to play outside

  8. We have a 4 year old Golden Retreiver. My advice is... don't let her get used to being on the furniture or sleeping in your bed. Kong toys are the only thing my dog doesn't chew through in 2 days, thus the only ones worth buying :) And lastly, always make her do something to earn her treats, even if it is just a "speak" or a "high-five".
    Congratulations!

  10. awwwww... you got a doggy! Oh yeah you can tell Stun man loves her so much. So... are you gonna let her sleep in his bed? *snicker*

  11. I'm the Anonymous person above with the GOlden Retreiver. The blog wouldn't let me post my comment showing my name, so I had to go to anonymous, but my name is Alicen.

  12. Awwww, that's GREAT, Mimi!!! The kids must be so excited. I can tell Stuntman is loving every minute with his new doggie. She's so lucky to have such a great family take here in. Congratulations!!!!

The only thing I can tell ya is to have plenty of balls handy. Petey is a sucker for balls.

  13. We did the same thing - totally got suckered in with the sweet puppy. For Soren, it was his 5 week old paws instead of his eyes. I picked him up, and he put a paw on each shoulder and snuggled his snout into my neck.

Now he's 100 pounds and sweet as pie. But he eats our underwear (not enough exercise, I think), and he tries to "sing" (a loud, supersonic doggy growl-yodel) to everyone who walks in the house.

Most important thing: Go get you and the dog into an obedience school that teaches you how to manage him. The chewing is really Soren's only behavioral issue, which is quite remarkable considering his early separation from his mommy. And even that I think is more to do with us than him.

Speaking of which, somebody needs a walk!

  14. What a sweetheart. My girls are begging for a dog every day and... I will not give in, I will not give in, I will not give in...
My advice..bring a bag with you every time you take her for a walk. ;o)

  15. Oh Mimi your new dog looks so sweet. Where did you get her? I bet the kids are so happy! Love her blue eys! Good luck with being a doggie Mama. I love our dog and she has blended in with us very nicely!

  16. OH MIMI she is sooo pretty! You have all the things she needs .....love being #1

I would only add KONG toys are the best! they simply can't chew them up! and the LOVE them! you don't have to buy KONG snacks to go in them....you can use store bought stuff. Buy her her own jar of peanut butter and be sure to mark it "Angels" so the kids don't get into her food LOL and just look at the other snacks they offer and buy the much cheaper people version. There prices are high on that stuff and there is no need.

Congrats! You will love her and believe me ....she is YOURS ;)

  17. How exciting for your kids!!! They will love you and Angel to death for this. There is something about having a dog or pet that makes a family feel just a little bit more complete...congrats to you. Love her eyes!!!

  18. Awwww! So cute!! We got our chihuahua when she was already a year old and I loved it because she was already trained! yay!

Our dog loves those Dingo bones that you can buy pretty much everywhere. If I don't buy her some, then she starts chewing on all the girls' toys. Ha!

  19. I agree with loving her (and spoiling her a little) is #1. I also agree that dogs just make a family seem more complete! They make their way into your heart immediately.

  20. Congrats! I have another friend who just got a puppy, my advice is to train the dog to stay outsie when you are eating or not to jump up on things for foor. Our lab will eat ANYTHING is sight including loaves of bread or anything left on the kids plates before they take them from the table. Good Luck, she is beautiful!

  21. That's so sweet! She's a beautiful girl and I have no doubt she'll be spoiled rotten!

As for a tip, I never have had an inside dog so I'm not sure what to suggest. :(

  22. I love the blue eyes, Our little puppy Brownie passed away last week. I would love to get the boys another puppy but Grayson is HIGHLY allergic to dogs and every itme he is around one he has an asthma attack & i hate having to put one outside in the winter, so i think we may by a fish! :)

  23. Wow, you're brave to take on a "DOG" but good for you. We always start with puppies, but we like to go to the Humane Society and get one that 'needs' a home. I love saving 'em. =0)

She's a beauty, Mimi! I know y'all will enjoy her to the max!

  24. Yay! She will be so fun! I think getting a dog is even better...she is probably already trained and done with the chewing phase! She's beautiful! So glad she found a loving home ;) Good for you! I have no tips...Skipper has been the best dog! I guess if I have to give you one tip it would be to get her used to a crate. Skipper still sleeps in his and even goes there on his own! The kids will surely be lots of fun for her too!

  25. aww! So happy for u and the family! Your Angel is gorgeous!!!

Tips: only give ur angel dog food. There are vertain human foods that can be harmful for doggies. If u can, get a book on eveything u need to know about the certain breed. It will elaborate on the type of dog, he is. some dogs require alot of play time, cuddle time, walking, etc. ENJOY!

  31. Now THAT is a dog! Did you get her from the Humane Society or from a friend?

If it's from the HS I would suggest you just watch her carefully for the next couple of days to see what her "clues" are. She'll clue you in as to who she is.

HS pets make great loyal pets, as they are so thankful to be rescued.

Ours was abused, as you might remember, but he is a great dog. He has come a long way. He still has some issues, and I guess we just have to accept his quirks.

He makes a great guard dog though.

  32. Aww...congrats, Mimi! She's a pretty doggie! We've had bad luck with the last few dogs we've had, so we won't be getting another anytime soon, but I miss having one!! Good luck. :)

  33. Ooh, hooray for you! I don't have much advice to give. Oskar is more spoiled and less diciplined than he ought to be. He even has his own blog, in case you didn't know, www.OskarsBlog.com.

Congratulations, I bet you won't be sorry!

  34. I don't have much advice...especially since we "lost" our dog earlier this year!! Good luck with Angel! Is she going to be an inside dog or an outside dog?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Uh, here is my advice...buy your kids a dog...and then give it to your neighbor in 3 months after it is potty trained.....;(

    ReplyDelete
  36. She is a beautiful doggie! I have to make sure my kids don't read this post or I will have to break a bunch of hearts when they ask me to get another dog. (We buried ours a year ago)

  44. aww!! she'll change your life forever!! After my divorce, I didn't want a pet. I had 3 kids and myself to take care of and just couldn't spend anymore energy or money on an animal. But last year I started needing a dog. And I got one for my birthday, and I canNOT imagine my life without this little ragmop now!!
